New Dos Equis Ads

Apologies if I’m late to the party here, but I finally saw the new Dos Equis commercials last night. Not surprisingly, I enjoyed them all. While the new spots bring nothing new to the table, why mess with a good thing? Over the past four years, “The Most Interesting Man in the World” campaign has probably single-handedly stopped the PVR-less citizens of the world from beating themselves to death with their remote controls. These new ads are everything Canadian commercials — and this blog — are not. Clever, funny and ridiculous without ever seeming stupid. Well done.

Every sports fans favourite topic: Abortion!

It’s the most tweeted and talked about story in the United States. Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow will star in a pro-life commercial during this year’s Super Bowl. In the 30-second ad, funded by Focus on the Family, Tebow and his mother tell the story of her high-risk pregnancy when she and her husband were missionaries in the Philippines. Advised to have an abortion, she chose life and Tim Tebow was born.

A potentially powerful message considering Tebow may be the best college football player in the history of the game. With two national championships and a Heisman Trophy under his belt, Tebow is not only a great leader, he’s the perfect role model for middle America. As a dedicated Christian, Tebow goes on missions to the Philippines, visits prisons, comforts children on their deathbeds, works with charities, and most famously, puts bible verses on his eye black. Oh yeah, and he’s a proud virgin, saving himself for marriage (a fact that seems even crazier when you see his girlfriend).

Top 25 Bud Light ads of all-time

The economic slump has prices for Super Bowl commercial time falling for only the second time in its history. TNS Media Intelligence said Monday that 30-second commercials during next month’s Super Bowl on CBS are selling for between US$2.5 million and $2.8 million, a drop from last year when ads averaged a record $3 million on NBC.

Hopefully this just means Bud Light will buy more ad space. Aside from those terrible Canadian-made “Budd Light” commercials where the guy’s punching a squid or making outdated sausage party jokes, Bud Light consistently delivers the funniest commercials every year. Here are my Top 25 Bud Light Ads of All-time:

Team Canada runs out of Gatorade

Canada’s run of five straight World Junior Hockey Championships is over after a 6-5 overtime loss to the rival Americans on Tuesday night. Despite another Jordanesque performance by Eberle (scoring twice to erase a 5-3 deficit), Canada came up short. Was it poor goaltending? Was the American team just that good? Was coach Desjardins’ immaculate moustache too damn distracting? Or, as new reports claim, did Canada just run out of Gatorade in overtime?
